What is a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD)?
An FDD is the legal document every franchisor must give you before you buy a franchise. It has 23 sections, called Items, covering fees, startup costs, litigation history, how many locations opened and closed, and sometimes what existing owners earn.
Are these FDDs really free?
Yes. FDDs filed with certain state regulators are public records. We link you straight to the official copy on the state website, so you get the document exactly as it was filed, at no cost.
How current is the FDD I download?
Each one is the most recent copy filed with the state, and we show the filing date next to it. Franchisors update their FDD every year, and must give you their current version at least 14 calendar days before you sign anything or pay any money. Always ask the franchisor for that copy before you commit.
Why ask for my contact details?
So an independent franchise consultant can follow up and help you make sense of what you are reading, if you want that. There is no charge for the FDDs and no obligation.
